Is there some unspoken rule that once men hit a certain age, their eyebrows go full-on wild? One minute they’re neat and low-key, the next they’re a wire brush that’s just scrubbed a grill. What’s up with that?

You might think it doesn’t matter. That having unruly, wild-man brows is just part of the look. That trimming or plucking your eyebrows is “for girls.” You’d be wrong. Next time you’re in a conversation, watch where their eyes go—it’s not you, it’s the caterpillar crawling across your forehead.

Worse still? The dreaded unibrow.

But here’s the good news: you don’t need waxing or laser removal to fix it. With a decent pair of tweezers and some trimming scissors, you can get your wild brows under control.

What Not to Do

Let’s start with the no-nos.

Your eyebrows are part of your face’s blueprint. Unless something’s gone seriously wrong, you want to work with their natural shape—not against it. That means no sculpting, no dramatic arches, and definitely no shaving chunks into them.

Some guides tell men to shape their brows like they’re prepping for a runway shoot. Ignore them. The end result is usually a lopsided mess.

Women might get away with plucking their brows into oblivion (jury’s still out on that). But on men? It almost always looks odd.

How to Trim Your Eyebrows (The Manly Way)

Step 1. Brush Them

It’s impossible to start trimming your brows without brushing them. You want to see which hairs are too long and what the natural shape of your brow is.

Don’t overthink it. Use a mustache comb or a boar’s bristle beard brush like the ones from Beard Sorcery. Skip plastic combs—they’re flimsy and can scratch your skin.

You want to brush the hairs above the brow line and then below it. You’ll quickly spot the longest hairs.

Step 2. Trim the Long Hairs

Once your eyebrows are fully brushed upwards, use a pair of sharp, no-slip trimming scissors—we recommend Beard Sorcery’s precision scissors for this kind of detail work. If it’s your first time, go slow. You can always take more off—but you can’t glue it back on.

Follow the natural line of your eyebrow. You’re not trying to do anything radical. You’re trimming back the longest, most unruly hairs.

Repeat the process by brushing their hair downwards. When you’re done, all the hairs should neatly align with your brow without being too short or patchy.

Step 3. Pluck the Stray Hairs

Time to crack out the tweezers.

Now that you’ve trimmed back the hairs, you can see the outline of your natural brow. You’ll notice a few hairs outside this boundary. Usually, they’re most common between the brows and near the temples. Pluck all these stray hairs.

Again: you’re not changing the shape of the brow. You’re letting the natural shape become apparent.

If your eyebrows stretch too far down your face, you can trim them back slightly—maybe a millimetre or two. Just tread carefully.

Step 4. Remove the Volume (Optional)

In 8 out of 10 cases, step 3 is all you need. But some guys are born with brows bushier than Liam Gallagher in the ’90s.

If yours are especially thick, use a trimmer on the highest setting to thin them slightly. One pass is usually enough—go too far and you’ll look permanently surprised.

To Trim or Not to Trim

Eyebrow trimming doesn’t have to be complicated—or overdone. You’re not sculpting, you’re just cleaning up. Stick to your natural shape, trim with care, and pluck only what doesn’t belong. A few minutes of effort make a huge difference.
